Small Businesses Weigh In: Will Obama’s Student Debt Plan Ignite Entrepreneurship?

The president’s plan will accelerate an existing plan to cap student loan payments at 10% of income to start in 2012 instead of 2014. It will also allow those with split loans from the Direct Loan program and the Family Education Loan Program to consolidate their debts into a single monthly payment. Borrowers that opt for this plan will get a 0.5 percentage point cut in their interest rate.

Steadily rising tuition costs has led to students  to borrow twice as much than they were a decade ago. Some argue this massive student loan debt prevents this generation of would-be entrepreneurs from starting businesses.

Making Your Website Mobile Friendly

As more consumers use their smartphones and other mobile devices to search for places to eat and shop, small businesses without a mobile version of their website could be losing potential customers and revenue.

Just having a website isn’t enough, said Alex Kutsishin, chief executive of FiddleFly, which helps companies tweak their websites for the mobile Internet.  “Searching a website that’s not optimized for mobile is like having to stop and pull out cash in the E-ZPass line,” said Kutsishin. “It’s all about convenience right now.”

Startup Loans for Entrepreneurs With Bad Credit | Fox Small Business Center

You’ve heard the complaint before. Entrepreneurs say banks only want to lend money to people who already have a lot of money.

Now there is an alternative source of startup funding that most entrepreneurs with no credit or bad credit don’t know about. Even better, the interest rates charged on these loans are usually much lower than standard credit card rates.

This is not a fantasy or a hoax, but a part of a world-wide movement that helps empower enterprising individuals to succeed in business.

Does personal attitude harm small business from happening?

During the last few weeks I’ve received letters and comments from business owners that reflect their uneasiness with the economy and the potential for another “dip” this winter. They worry that “things are really going to get bad again” but they don’t exactly know how or when.

One business woman asked, “Is it better to try to prepare for some worst case scenario or just wait until it happens and deal with it then?”

Just How Optimistic are Small Business Owners?

For the first time in six months, entrepreneurs are feeling a bit more hopeful—even if it’s just by .08%.

The National Federation of Independent Business’ Small Business Optimism Index grew for the first time in 2011 to 88.9% from 88.1% in August, however, much of the index’s components remain in negative territory.

The index reported that sales were still small business owners’ No.1 concern, and that -22% of business owners are expecting better conditions in the next six months.

Worker Let Go for Being Obese

A Texas worker is suing his employer for firing him because he weighed 680 pounds.

EEOC, which filed the lawsuit on behalf of the worker, Ronald Kratz II, alleges that BAE Systems, a company that manufactures military vehicles, violated federal disability laws by firing its morbidly obese employee.

Kratz insists his weight did not interfere with his ability to perform his job duties as a parts sorter. His employer determined that it did.

Kratz said he reported for an overtime shift two years ago only to be called into human resources to be told he was being terminated because company officials thought that he weighed too much, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Moving on and needing to remodel

The R word can be something that makes small business owners shake; the word being discussed is remodel as it can be quite a scary experience because it opens up so many new areas. What can make the remodeling experience less scary, is to seek out ideas for specific ideas things that will help improve structure, open space further , and define creative detail. Each time something is done, it would be helpful to then move onto another task for awhile and then review the work that was completed.

By doing that it will allow your mind the chance to forget about what was done and see the work with a fresh view so if any changes need to be made they can be done quickly. Another idea that many are taking advantage of is using their digital camera and taking photos of before and after to compare and help improve changes.

A business owner can make this project be a very beneficial outcome for his or her business just by following a few brief planning steps. In essence, it is valuable to plan out a structure for this remodel as it will be quite helpful to determine the necessary needs from structure to layout detail. When planning tasks, it also provides assistance in determining things such as timing to do certain areas for items which is an important issue.
